went here w/ my maternal grandfather, tickets were free!
pic from outside, it looks a lot bigger in person trust
three things i thought were cool enough to take pictures of
really intricate pottery
most of these images are like self describing but it would look to uninteresting w/o any captions
HOW
LIKE HOW ARE THE THINGS LIKE SO THIN
ok this one seems a bit more feasible
THIS ONE DOESN'T THOUGH
oh god the patterns on this must've been hell to make
imagine having the patience to model like 50 of these goddamn knots
photo makes this ship look smaller than it is
let's go women
a sculpture supposedly with the 100 most common chinese last names
though my family name 盛 is on the list i couldn't find it anywhere,
but here's some of the last names that i did find of people i know:
赵 (zhao, 4th tone)
曹 (cao, 2nd tone)
pics of old shanghai
my grandfather looked at these photos and could literally tell me
the individual buildings and what they were, really cool stuff
苏州 (suzhou) river, which is right behind my paternal grandparent's place;
it used to be really dirty until they banned ships from going through and now it's clean enough
oops i forgot which road he told me this was 💀
birthday pics
first time i got to spend my bday in china!
both sides of my family got me a birthday cake, so that got me fattened up for a while
some matcha style cake from mom's side
ice cream cake from dad's side.
i didn't know what ice cream cake was and i was a little bit disappointed
to find out that it was just like standard cake with ice cream as filling.
also the letters were foam, not chocolate :(
and then my cousin & aunt took me out to a one-night stay at
this hotel in the mountains in 安吉 (anji):
very cool view from the hotel it's called the blue bird or something
view down from a scenic area near the hotel- we took a cable car up
food pics
assortment of food, both fast and slow
actual chinese food
amazing 小混沌 (wontons) for like 13 rmb
went over to a friend's place for dinner and they had HONEST TO GOD
MAOTAI
i wound up diluting it w/ sprite tho lol
a slab of tea my cousin got & handed off to me
like damn who wants their tea in chocolate bar format bruh
my last lunch over there, i got the mapo tofu + peking duck
took a quick vid of the guy slicing the duck
japanese stuff because i'm an awful weeb
i've only seen yoshinoya at my school so this was a surprise
this ice cream was at american price point, but it was very creamy.
would probably buy again tbh
assorted appetizers- the green stuff was like sweet matcha and the yellow stuff was egg
this was the main course, some beef, rice, and a raw egg. v good!
also went to a crowded sushi place, i thought 3 servings wouldn't be enough but it was gg
yeah this one came like 5 minutes after so it has a separate photo haha
peek this fancy ahh ramen i had w/ my grandpa
and random stuff
popeyes finally got a foothold in china it seems.
tastes around the same, surprisingly!
crepe cakes (like those from lady m) that were
cheaper when ordered through delivery???? (like 60 rmb)
there's a starbucks on nanjing west road that has like
a live mini factory processing and packing beans
this five guys was NOT worth it bro 🥀 💔
in-n-out will always be my goat
欢乐谷 was cool
so china has a "teacher's day" since asian culture is all about education and that
on this day, this amusement park called 欢乐谷 (they translated it as "happy valley", which, lmao)
discounted the ticket prices for teaches from 260 rmb to 9.9
my cousin & her friend were both teachers, so they took me there with em
is this like a manta ray or a shark i have no idea
this ride was in an ocean themed area. wonderful theming here guys.
WHY ARE THEY SELLING ANIME STUFF HERE
AND CIGARETTES TOO HAHAHAHAHA
like american theme parks they had this like refillable cup, only:
had both popcorn AND drinks
was only 40 rmb
refills were like, completely free, i'm not joking
don't ask me why it has "the avengers" in cocacola font
the stores in this park actually weren't price-gougey! very surprising!
they also had, like, a mini zoo?
some colorful pigeons
yeah, birds are cool
ten bucks on that they had a raccoon problem and decided to monetize it
random photos idk where to put
a bunch of interesting/funny stuff
this cat just walked up to me when i was going back one night
average asian arcade player tbh
saw this on the road, a truckload of desks packed together with at least 20 osha violations
found these at a bookstore! the original ones, not the slop mojang's putting out now!
and this HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA
(there was also hillbilly elegy but i didn't take a pic)
and a bit of a lego dump since i've gotten slightly reinterested in em
oriental pearl model the store near the 人民广场 (people's square) subway station
and this sick dragon
they also had all the plants laid out, which was v satisfying to see
but also this supposedly shanghai-exclusive skyline set,
which has NO BUSINESS BEING THIS EXPENSIVE WTH
worst for last HAHA
there's always some collabs going on in the orient,
i'll put those here first
like logitech was doing some genshin (bleh) stuff
arknights had an ipstar collab cafe
(food was expensive and, ngl, kinda mid...)
luckin was doing smth w/ hsr
and this lemon tea shop had a miku exclusive
came w/ a sticker sheet too!
molly tea was doing smth w/ this chinese bl or whatever, i'm not into that
apparently TADC is big enough in china to warrant a popup store
goodsmile had both a miku collab cafe
and a (what i presume is limited time) nso merch shop.
btw their prices are always the most egregious stuff out there
last summer i saw subway wraps for the arknights con hypergryph was hosting
(which had already passed by the time i saw it NOOO), but check this out:
UMA MUSUME WHAT
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
like this was the only subway i saw that had it! idk why!
i literally had to sprint down to take photos beore it left
ok but now for some actual anime merch that i saw
this was an INSANE claw machine,
i think it gripped at full force every time!
i got it for like 6 rmb of input
what if silver wolf was called freaky wolf instead
oh they're selling merch of that japanese clip art now?
very cool, but not enough to get my money unfortunately
this was a LOUD AND PROUD ad like right on the side of a busy road
and this is genuinely some of the best sanrio art i've ever seen just LOOK AT CINNAMOROLL OMG OMG OMG
this one anime store had a wall plastered full of chinese gacha game-related memes
another snippet of the meme wall
real funny given all the events around nijisanji.
i got the selen one, i thought it would be funny...
and one last thing- the uniqlo on nanjing west road
(and ONLY there- no other uniqlo i went to in shanghai had it)
had these bilibili-related graphic tees:
here was one shelf w/ their lil mascot thing
these are like shows they've had a hand in producing i think
why...why are you here
ain't no way you scrolled through this entire thing bro
